When done properly they are far superior to stick built spanky shacks. Notice the qualifier properly. Lots of shitty companies selling third rate garbage lumber in kit homes. In western md there is no shortage of them. Go w quality logs that have been aged and properly stored and don't diy or hire someone who doesn't do logs exclusively.

    • Toronto's mayor John Tory demands an end to competition for fast, affordable broadband
In Canada, as in the UK and many other countries (including the USA, until the mid-2000s), the big telcos are required to wholesale their lines to small, upstart competitors as payback for access to rights-of-way and municipal infrastructure. This results in more competition, faster connections, and cheaper service for residents.

Bell Canada, the company that owes its fortune to nearly a century of public investment, is fighting that rule, saying that it and it alone should have the right to sell access to its new fiber networks. The CRTC, Canada's telcoms regulator, told them to pound sand, but they've appealed to the new Liberal government.

John Tory, the mayor of Toronto -- and a former cable executive -- has taken up their cause, sending a letter to the federal government demanding that his city's electronic nervous system be owned by a single company that gets to enjoys billions in public subsidies in the form of rights-of-way and access to infrastructure, with no public duty and no competition. He was joined in this position by Ottawa mayor Jim Watson.

By contrast, the amazing mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi, submitted a 28-page letter to the feds saying that letting other companies use Bell's lines didn't go far enough: Calgary and other cities should build and operate their own electronic infrastructure.

I'm all for the Day of the Rope - and soon - but can't quite imagine using street lamps to do it. They are way too high and it would be super inconvenient, never mind a great waste of rope, to use them. To process the numbers that need 'processing' we'll definitely need something better.

    • TransCanada to launch NAFTA claim over Keystone rejection
TransCanada Corp. plans to launch a North American free-trade agreement claim seeking more than $15-billion (U.S.) in damages in response to the U.S. government's decision to deny a permit for the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

Adding to the likely test of U.S.-Canada relations, TransCanada also said Wednesday it has launched a separate lawsuit in the U.S. Federal Court in Houston asserting that U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to deny construction of the $8-billion project exceeded his power under the U.S. Constitution.

TransCanada also said it expects to take a writedown of $2.5-billion (Canadian) to $2.9-billion after tax in the fourth quarter related to the Keystone XL permit denial.

    • Marco Muzzo, charged in crash that killed 4, to plead guilty on Feb. 4
An alleged impaired driver charged in a crash north of Toronto that killed three children and their grandfather is set to plead guilty on Feb. 4, after electing to be tried by judge alone Wednesday afternoon.

The decision was made in a Newmarket court Wednesday morning after Marco Muzzo's lawyer waived the man's right to a preliminary hearing, saying there was sufficient evidence in the case to go directly to trial. An agreed statement of facts will also be announced on Feb. 4 and he will be sentenced on Feb. 23 and 24.

Muzzo appeared before a Superior Court judge Wednesday, after Crown attorney Paul Tait said he expected Muzzo's lawyer to let his intentions be known.

99% of his posts are in support for bleeding heart liberalism but when it comes to crimes that outrage conservatives, 'could be worth some time in Prison'.

Edit... uhm, just realized he may have been saying 'could be worth some time in prison' to kill the pimp.

    • Fucking embarrassment
It's sort of like the photo shoot Gavin Newsom did with his wife (Kimberly Guilfoyle of FoxNews) when he was mayor of SF. It was even more suggestive than this picture of the Trudeaus.

They were divorced within a year of the pictures being published.

    • Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Gives Justice Minister Mandate To Legalize Cannabis
I have friends who are trying to create their own medical marijuana production facility (in Canada) and the amount of red tape and government permit delays have been infuriating to say the least. They've plunked down $100K and years of work into this project and it has gone nowhere.

Big players and the politically well connected have not gone through even a fraction of the hurdles that they have.

I don't personally use pot (LSD is my drug of choice) so I don't know much about how it can be grown at home (my hippie parents though, had a whole hydroponic system to grow the stuff).

I suspect that even if government relaxes the rules on growing pot at home, that the big corporations will scale and provide superior product to put the small time players out of business. Tax stamp authority will be given to the big players who pay to play and the small business man and artisinal participants (outside of novelty paraphernalia items) will be frozen out. Only government stores or stores established by big consortiums will be allowed to sell the stuff.
