    • You tip to ensure good service. But 8if you don't expect to be back anytime soon?

Why bother? Does anyone just stop tipping altogether out of town?
I guess you need to pay cash to avoid getting doxxed on fb and that could make it tough to get reimbursed.

But why should you care? You don't tip the plumber etc. If they live in a different town fuck them.

    • Bagger. Don't be a dick. You must tip. The waiter lives on tips.

I live off that money too. Why should I care about the waiter? It's a restaurant. Not a welfare office.

Tipping is to ensure good REPEAT service. That's why you give it at the end. If I'm traveling and never anticipate going back why should I tip?

I'm beginning to think we are brainwashed.

      Or what?
What if I don't tip when traveling?

I earn a return of 15-25% that I would have lost.

And what's the downside? I get bad service next time I go to a restaurant I never will visit again?

What's the point? Why should I tip the maids or the taxi guy driving me to airport? What is the return for me? Where is the value?

    • Why don't you tip on the beginning of the meal?

We both know why. Because once they have the money they won't have a reason to provide the service.

Basically tipping whites traveling comes down to social signaling. A meaningless waste of money due to a behavioral quirk.

You can see it in the responses above- I'm a good guy who cares about the server, I'm so rich I can their away money, or I'm part of society and conform to norms that cost me economically

Guess what- I don't care about some stupid waitress and Her poor life choices. Burning money is stupid. And the average person in society is broke so I don't want to imitate them.

Wowee, asshole. Just dont tip then. Nobody gives a shit why, even the waiter. Theyd probably PAY YOU to get your smelly ass out.

      You joke
But how many times have you been at a restaurant where the waitress takes your order. And then she disappears. You don't see her for 35 minutes.

And then suddenly she shows up all smiles to give you the check.

She's not dumb. She is working only for the tips and she knows you stupid chumps will tip her. And by tipping her you are reinforcing her to keep acting that way.

Tipping is eminently capitalist. I am paying extra for s especially good service.

But what if I just get average service or I'm not planning on coming back?

Tipping is very rare where I live

Tipping should be rare every where. Unless you plan to use repeat services and want special level of care

Tipping a bartender at a busy bar makes sense so you can get served faster the next round.

But if you are out of town and plan to never return to that bar, don't to on the last round- right?

Back in the days of my humble beginnings, those tips I got made the difference between paying rent and being homeless.

Dumb reason. You got out of your humble beginnings by 3 things
      1 hard work
      2. Wise financial choices
      3. Not relying on some shitty career that forces you to live on tips

By tipping you are only continuing the cycle of poverty. Waitressing is for teenagers not a career.

Where I live, minimum wage is $14/hr. Worse, food service staff at all but the top places are largely brown.

I have absolutely no problem stiffing a server if I get shitty service. I'm already subsidizing their "living wage" with higher menu prices. There's absolutely no reason for me to hand over any more cash unless I get phenomenal service.

      Shitty service: no tip.
Mediocre service: depends on my mood and if I liked the server.
Good service: depends on whether you're brown or not ;ulol;.

Here's what food service staffs look like here:

Why bother tipping if you're out of town? #1

Yes, that's a Denny's staff but it's almost all the same at average +/- restaurants here.

It's only worth going out to top restaurants anyway, everything is overpriced cysco slop served to you by people who barely speak english.
